People lack many things: jobs, shelter, food, health care and drinkable water. Today, being cut off from basic telecommunications services is a hardship almost as acute as these other deprivations, and may indeed reduce the chances of finding remedies to them." UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan
The Bristol Wireless solution offers digitally disadvantaged people free access, along with a competitive and reliable service to heavy users, whilst maximising bandwidth resources. We anticipate that in the near future we will be able to offer low cost telephony via fixed VOIP connections. We also hope to offer access through dual Wifi/mobile phones in our hotspot areas.
Much of the pioneering work has been with the assistance of over 100 volunteers over a 4 year period. The engineering problems and scalable network topology have been resolved with thousands of hours of painstaking work.
